As I said when I started this blog you would probably hear more about Fresno State than you wanted to-but then again maybe not. A Bulldog alum is really becoming a rising star on the PGA Tour. NickWatney won the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines (His 2nd career win)-he battled Phil Mickaelson down to the wire in the World Golf Championship and has two other 12th place finishes in 7 starts this year. He stands 3rd in Fed Ex points and third on the money list-having won close to 2.1 million dollars so far this year.
Watney-who probably would not have gotten a scholarship to any school had his uncle (Mike Watney) not been the coach at Fresno State has taken advantage of every opportunity. Reviewing Nick's stat's show that he does not do anything extremely well he just does everything well. As a matter of fact his driving accuracy is 149th on the tour-which just goes to show how well Nick can scramble out of trouble. Watney opened the Arnold Palmer invitational at Bay Hill with a 67 today and stands only 2 strokes back-as we near the first of the 2009 majors keep and eye on Nick as a possible sleeper at Augusta for the Masters.
